Susana Cigarro is a name to remember, and more so if you like food from the Portuguese region of Alentejo (south of Lisbon). Born and raised in Montemor-o-Novo, she is passionate about the local gastronomy, whose tradition and local ingredients define Susana Cigarro as a Chef.

An alumna of Le Cordon Blue School in London, she worked at L’and Vineyards, in her hometown, first as an assistant to Chef Miguel Laffan and later as the F&B director. And this is 2015, the year when the restaurant got its first Michelin star!

Currently, she works both as a consultant for different food projects, and as a Chef, her true calling. The kitchen is Susana’s playground, where she ceaselessly explores both her region’s traditional cuisine, with dishes such as Purslane Soup, Ossobuco in an Iron Pot, and others, as well as the cuisine from elsewhere in Portugal and in the world, with some surprising creations such as her Salmon Tartar and Veggie Meatballs. Her desserts, such as Queijadas de Leite and Brigadeiros, are also worth crying for.

Interestingly, before starting her food journey, Susana Cigarro was a graphic designer. We are so fortunate for the moment Susana said goodbye to Photoshop and embraced the pleasures of gastronomy.

Chef Susana was just great. She was wonderful handling timings, and even created a kids dinner that the little one gobbled up. She tailored the menu just for us, arrived on time and prepared a delicious meal. She was friendly, knowledgable and just the right amount of discreet and available for us throughout the meal. Would absolutely recommend.

A comida estava ótima (tártaro de bacalhau, bochechas de porco preto, e pudim de queijo de Serpa). O serviço foi irrepreensível. E a simpatia da Chef foi contagiante. Foi uma noite bem passada com amigos à mesa, onde nos deliciámos com pratos perfeitos e com uma conversa animada, tudo isto no conforto de casa e enquanto as crianças estavam entretidas a brincar.
