Alexandre Catapirra is the Chef who always knew what he wanted to do as a grown-up. At an early age he already loved cooking for friends and family, so, it was no surprise when he applied to the Lisbon School of Hospitality and Tourism.
The desire to know, learn and evolve in the world of professional kitchens marked the first years of his career. From working in small gourmet brasseries and large catering companies, as well as steak houses and restaurants specialized in seafood, to broadening his management skills by taking courses in his spare time and by embracing challenges such as opening new restaurants, all contributed to Alexandre becoming, year after year, more competent and more complete.
Alexandre’s growth as a cook benefited immensely from his experience in the kitchens of renowned 5-star hotels in Lisbon, such as Altis Grand and Grande Real Villa Itália. But it was in London that his passion and expertise jumped to another level, under the guidance of Chef Martyn Nail at the infamous Claridge's, one of the best luxury hotels in the world, also known as the “annexe to Buckingham Palace” by virtue of its long-standing connections to British royalty.
Back to Portugal, Alexandre devoted himself to Portuguese flavours with special attention to fish and seafood which, according to Chef’s own words, are amongst the most delicate ingredients to work with. Currently, Alexandre dedicates his time to consultancy jobs, while keeping his routine practice in the kitchen where he strives to perfect flavours and combinations every day. A luxury for those who are pleased to welcome Chef Alexandre at home.
